In response to the Government announcement today (7 April) around social housing tenants being given money to maintain their homes, Nick Jackson from Plymouth Community Homes said:
“We will be watching closely to see how these proposals develop. We need to understand fully the implications of the plans for tenants and would need to consult with them fully before even considering making any changes to our repairs service.
“Whilst we support choice for tenants in how they manage their homes, we also have a responsibility to our tenants to make sure their homes are safe. In reality, in-house repairs can mean anything from managing asbestos safely to replacing a broken window. There’s a big difference and we need to manage that carefully.
“We also need to make sure that any work done is of a good standard and offers value for money for tenants. Our most recent survey showed that up to 95% of our tenants were satisfied with the individual repairs we did in their homes.
“We’d like to reassure our tenants that they will continue to receive a full repairs service from us.”
