South West Water helping residents save money on their bill

South West Water (SWW) was on hand at our shop in Frankfort Gate to offer our residents tips on how to save money on their water bill.

PCH is working in partnership with SWW to arrange for regular drop in sessions for our residents

South West Water’s WaterCare Advisors work in partnership with social landlords across Devon and Cornwall, meeting residents face to face to offer information and advice on ways to save money off their water bills.

Nicky Kingston, Area Housing Manager said: “We often come across residents who have water debt and regularly work with SWW to help them with a repayment plan. There are so many different options available which people don’t realise which can also help to reduce their payments and save them from getting further into debt.

“Any debt can cause people stress and anxiety. We have a team of people who can help, so if you are struggling with any type of debt, even if it isn’t your rent, contact us and we can help. Free advice is also available from the Citizen’s Advice Bureau.”

Switching to a water meter

Each year 20,000 people in Devon and Cornwall save on average £300-£400 per household just by having a water meter fitted.

SWW have advisors who will be able to help you find out if a meter could save you money and help you with the necessary forms. It’s free and if, within 24 months, you feel it’s not right for you, you can go back to an unmeasured charge.

The WaterSure Tarrif

This may help you reduce your bill if you have a water meter, receive certain benefits and if someone in your home has a medical condition that means extra water is used, or if you have three or more children living with you. It works by capping your bill to our average annual domestic water and sewerage charges.

Debt helpline

You can contact the SWW Debt Helpline on 0800 083 0283 to talk through the different options that are available to you.

The WaterCare Tarrif

The WaterCare Tarrif is for metered customers who are on very low income. To qualify you or someone in your household must be receiving one of the following means tested benefits:

  • Housing Benefit
  • Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance
  • Income-based Employment & Support Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Pension Credit (guaranteed element)
  • Universal Credit (housing element)

The Tarrif offers a discount of between 15-50% off your water bill. An income assessment is carried out to determine your eligibility.

Priority Services

This is for SWW customers with additional needs. They can provide bills in different formats, water deliveries in emergencies and notify you of a planned interruption to supply.
