£75 million contracts to improve homes and boost local jobs awarded

Posted On: 10/12/2009

Plymouth Community Homes has awarded its first major contracts to deliver the massive programme of improvements to tenants homes - £75 million of work to four contractors who will start to deliver the transfer promises.

We've awarded contracts to:

  • Apollo,
  • Connaught,
  • Keepmoat, and
  • MITIE

The contracts have been awarded as a five year framework agreement, which will deliver about 14,000 kitchen and bathroom refurbishments, as part of Plymouth Community Homes’ five year £168 million investment programme.

All four contractors agreed to use a single local supply chain that will be a major boost to local suppliers and manufacturers. The chosen contractors are equally committed to using local labour. This could mean up to 120 jobs and 12 apprenticeships in the city. Each contractor was also keen to get involved in community projects too, demonstrating their commitment to putting something back into Plymouth.

Clive Turner, Chief Executive of Plymouth Community Homes, said: "I am delighted to announce the four contractors who will become our key partners as we roll out the first investment promises to our tenants."

"The successful contractors demonstrated excellent value for money together with a commitment to boost job numbers and apprenticeships in the city, which can only be welcomed in the current economic climate."
