New homes ready at PCH development

The first homes at our brand new Porsham Heights development have been unveiled.

The initial phase of the Southway scheme, which has already attracted huge interest among homeseekers, has been officially handed over to us by contractor Galliford Try.

We’ve taken ownership of 29 homes, 21 for rent and eight for shared ownership through SO Living. When the scheme is complete next year, we will have delivered a total of 67 homes – 42 for rent and 25 for shared ownership.

PCH and Galliford Try staff, as well as partners from Plymouth City Council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) gathered for a ribbon cutting on Friday to mark the occasion.

Nick Jackson, PCH Director of Business Services and Development, said: “This is quite a special site for us, indeed the first one in the north of the city, building on our vision to offer more homes in new ways and new places.

“Big thanks must go to Plymouth City Council for releasing this site to us as part of their Plan for Homes commitment and the HCA who supported us with funding of just over £2 million. Without their help this scheme would not have got off the ground.”

Gavin Caldwell, Build Manager of Galliford Try, said: “This was a brownfield site before. We’ve taken an empty space and built much-needed homes for local people. The local community will benefit from what we have done together.

“It’s a lovely open development and I think people will enjoy living here. It’s a sustainable development close to local schools and shops.”

Councillor Steve Ricketts, PCC Cabinet Member for Transport and Housing Delivery, added: “The space here is really impressive. You can get new developments where homes are squashed in but not here. It’s also fantastic to see the skills and training elements.”

The site has been home to Galliford’s Skills Academy, run with Cornwall College, which saw dozens of would-be construction workers given training in relevant trades and the opportunity to gain experience in a live site environment.

Our partnership with Galliford Try continues at our nearby Brentor View scheme in Bampfylde Way, where they’re building 95 homes for rent or shared ownership.
