November 20th is official transfer day and marks the beginning of a whole new era of social housing in the city.
This afternoon we at last finalised the transfer negotiations after a year of hard work. So from today, Plymouth Community Homes officially takes over the ownership and management of the Council’s 14,800 homes.
The transfer means Plymouth Community Homes can roll out its multi-million investment programme to bring tenants’ homes and neighbourhoods up to the standards they have a right to expect and deserve.
Exciting times are on the horizon, we are set to deliver £168 million of improvements in the first five years including:
A large part of funding for the transfer has been provided by the Homes and Communities Agency.
Colin Molton, Regional Director of the Homes and Communities Agency in the South West said: “We are delighted to see the launch of Plymouth Community Homes and will continue to work very closely with PCH, Plymouth City Council and the Government Office to help ensure its success.
One of a number of key priorities for Plymouth, our investment of up to £161m, will now enable PCH’s stock to be improved above Decent Homes Standard and as a result directly improve the lives of over 14800 tenants in the city.
“Part of the investment will also be spent regenerating the North Prospect estate, providing new homes and a 10 year regeneration programme.”
And investment will not stop there! Plymouth Community Homes will invest £1 billion over 30 years to keep up the standards for the long term.
