A fresh start this Christmas for one new tenant

For many of our new tenants, our properties can provide not only a much-needed home but also a chance to start a new chapter in their life. We meet Brain Riddock to find out more.

Brian is an Army veteran who after falling on hard times has spent the last year and a half living in Plymouth Home for Veterans Hostel. This December is the beginning of a fresh start for Brian as he moves into a Plymouth Community Homes flat for Christmas look forward to the New Year in a more positive way.

Brian said: “I’m really happy with my new home; I’m hoping it will be my forever home now as it’s in a great location. It’s close to Dartmoor which is perfect for me as I love the outdoors and spending time in such a beautiful place. This home gives me a sense of identity and something to be proud of.

“I volunteer at Dartmoor Zoo as well which I love and gives me such a positive boost after being out of work for a little while.”

For tenants like Brian being in a home at Christmas can make a big difference and the chance for a fresh start. Brian was recently praised in the Plymouth Herald as a local hero after helping a woman who had fallen in Plymouth City Centre until an ambulance arrived, is delighted to be in his new home and independent after being in a hostel since 2016.

Brian said: “I’m really looking forward to the New Year and everything 2018 brings. Everyone deserves a decent place to live where they can feel safe and be part of their community which is exactly what PCH have provided for me.”

We would like to take this chance to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.
