As we slowly begin to get back to some form of normality – with non-essential shops opening as well as zoos and parks, we are looking at how we can safely bring back more services for you.
Your safety and that of our staff and contractors is always at the forefront of our minds when making decisions on how and when we restore our services.
We are still carrying out emergency repairs and over the next week we’re looking to restart communal and external repairs, as well as looking at repairs that were cancelled during lockdown and rebooking these by calling residents.
What we’ve been doing
Here’s a little snapshot of some of the things we’ve been doing to keep in touch with residents during lockdown:
- 3,184 calls to elderly residents
- 10,000 calls by our income support team to help residents
- 4,783 contacts with residents in housing with support to check on people’s welfare
Last week, we told you how we’re using a new way of working to help keep our residents and staff safe.
We’re trialling Remote Assistance, a new tool that will help us identify repairs and carry out tasks without having to enter your home.
We’ll speak to you via a video feed which will enable staff to assess the problem and offer remote support if possible.
This will mean that visits to homes will only be made when needed and reduce any risk of infection when entering properties.

Test and trace

The Beacon will remain closed to the public, but will open for commercial tenants and their staff, including the children’s nursery.
We will be observing all safety rules enabling buyers to move safely during the process.
Following Government advice our contractors are beginning to work safely on our sites. Over the next few weeks, residents living in a property that is being worked on will receive a letter to say when work will restart and be given advice on how we are going to work safely for residents and staff.
As people gradually return to work, there are some extra general safety measures that we will be following including:
- Limiting contact with residents and other staff.
- Using the same teams where work needs to be carried out by more than one person.
- Providing staff with suitable protective equipment to be able to carry out their jobs safely.
- We will be asking our staff to observe 2 metre social distancing with residents where possible.
- We will ask you if you or anyone in your home is suffering from Covid-19 symptoms before we arrive.
- When a repair is being carried out at your home it is advisable to move to a different room and allow our operatives to complete the repair.

Reporting anti-social behaviour
We’re working with police teams on reports of anti-social behaviour which you can report to us on 0808 230 6500 or 0800 028 7377 (out of hours).
Laundries will remain open so residents can do their washing. Please remember to stay at least 2 metres away from other people while using the laundries.
Rent and finances
We are committed to making sure that we can help you so it’s important to contact us as soon as possible if you have any money worries. We’d like to reassure our residents that we will not evict anyone due to a loss of income as a result of Coronavirus. Call us on 0808 230 6500.
Devon Home Choice
We’ve re-started advertising properties on Devon Home Choice so applicants can go on and start bidding for homes again.
We’re currently looking at completing risk assessments so that mutual exchanges can happen safely.
Sheltered housing schemes
It is particularly important that we limit the potential spread of Coronavirus in our sheltered housing schemes, as it is more likely people living there will fall into one of the vulnerable groups highlighted by Government.
We’d ask people with relatives in our sheltered housing schemes not to visit unless providing essential care or support.
- Our staff will only visit in person when there is an emergency or essential action needed.
- Our staff will be staying in contact with residents by phone or video call wherever possible.
- Our staff will follow safely and hygiene precautions in line with Government guidance.
