Learn for Free Autumn 2018

Our award winning Learn for Free training programme is back with a brand new range of courses and qualifications.

This time, we are offering a new career pathway called ‘Learning the Basics’, perfect for anyone who is looking to get back into work or to boost their skills. The courses on offer include:

  • First Aid
  • Level 1 Food Hygiene
  • Customer Service
  • Improve Your Confidence
  • Health & Safety Awareness
  • Equality & Diversity
  • Data Protection in the Workplace
  • Job Interview Experience Day
  • How to Write a Great CV
  • How to Run a Resident Event

As well as our specialist courses and career pathways, we also have ongoing learning and interest clubs, such as:

Maths Made Easy (Tuesdays 10am-12pm)

Join this weekly class to improve your maths skills and work towards a qualification.

English Made Easy (Thursdays 10am-12pm)

Join this weekly class to work towards an English qualification and to improve your writing, reading and speaking skills.

Computer Club (Wednesdays 1pm-4pm)

PCH have a free weekly computer club, designed for residents. There’s no need to book, simply drop in at our friendly and informal session to use our desktop computers, laptops and tablets – or bring your own and use our free Wi-Fi.

Whether you want to start with the basics, like learning how to search the internet and create an email address, or want to top up your skills in Word and Excel, our course tutor will be on hand to help you to learn at your own pace.

Craft Club (Tuesdays and Thursdays 12pm-3pm)

If you’d like to develop your hobby or simply try out lots of new things, the craft club could be the place for you. Refreshments and crafting materials are supplied. 

Photography Club (Mondays 1pm-4pm)

The club combines practical sessions with visits to places of interest to help develop your photography skills. There’s no need to book, simply come along at your leisure.

Gadget Club (Fridays 10am-12pm)

Learn how to use the latest technology at our drop-in sessions, with everything from VR goggles and laser keyboards to smartphones and digital assistants available to try.

Work Clubs (Various days and times)

Learn how to use the Universal Jobmatch programme, apply for jobs online and create a CV and covering letter.

 

In addition, we’ll be holding a CSCS open session for anyone interested in a career in construction and continuing to run the Habitat and ROLO training course, a great choice for those interested in woodland management.

In addition, Plumer House is now a UK Online Centre with Learn My Way; which gives you access to free online training courses. Search Learn My way on our website www.plymouthcommunityhomes.co.uk and use our sign up code 8000268 and choose any course that suits you.

Please make sure that you book your place on the course in advance, don’t just turn up on the day as the course may be full. A light lunch will be provided on the day and we can help with the costs of travel and care.
