Plans for new homes move forward

We’re building our first homes outside of the Plymouth city boundary.

The 11 one, two and three-bed homes will be located off Briar Tor, in Yelverton.

Plymouth-based Classic Builders have already begun work on their 43-home development.

They are building 32 homes for open market sale while we have entered into contract for the remaining 11 as part of a Section 106 agreement.

This means we will offer them for affordable rent to people from Yelverton and the surrounding parishes of Meavy, Walkhampton, Horrabridge and Whitchurch on the Devon Home Choice register.

The development is due to be finished before Christmas.

Tina Olver, PCH Senior Development Officer, said: “This is a unique development for us. It’s the first one outside of the city boundary of Plymouth.

“The rental income we get from these homes will go straight back into investing in homes and services for our tenants in Plymouth and around.

“It’s great that we are well regarded by other planning authorities and builders as a potential partner in delivering homes.”

We’ll be holding an awareness day next Tuesday 17 July from 3pm to 7pm at the Liverty Sheltered Scheme in Briar Tor for people from Yelverton and the above parishes.

The event is for people to find out more about the type of homes available. Advice will be given on housing benefit and there will also be a team there from Devon Home Choice.

The PCH Development Board has recently approved plans to extend our development area to within 30 minutes travelling time of Plymouth.

We are currently looking at other sites outside of Plymouth, including Butcher Park in Tavistock, where we are working in conjunction with Barratt Homes on a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership properties.
