Putting people first nets PCH Investors in People Gold

Plymouth Community Homes has been awarded Investors in People (IIP) Gold for a second time.

IIP is a national standard that looks at how an organisation treats its staff and customers, and how well it lives up to its values.

The achievement puts PCH amongst an elite 17% who are IIP Gold accredited out of the 15,000 organisations assessed spanning 75 countries. It means PCH has policies in place but more than that, it means everyone – from CEO to apprentice - takes ownership for making them come to life.

John Clark, Chief Executive for PCH, said: “To have retained our Gold award during what has been the most challenging of times for everyone, at home and at work, is fantastic.

“During the assessment, we were measured against a new, more difficult standard, which IIP have recently introduced, so our achievement is even more impressive and it’s down to the work our staff do on a daily basis to support our residents, each other and the values that PCH stands for.

”Measuring ourselves against the IIP standard is important because it helps us to make sure our people come first - that’s our staff and residents.”

PCH first achieved IIP Gold in 2017 and has improved on results since then with the introduction of four new values that help to guide our work: care, respect, listen and do the right thing.

Gill Martin, Director of Corporate Services, said: “Getting confirmation that we remain a Gold standard employer after the past 18 months we’ve had is a phenomenal achievement. I’m incredibly proud of the work everyone has put in right across the organisation to ensure we stayed true to our values. They see us put staff and residents’ safety and wellbeing at our heart and we make sure we live them every day. Throughout Covid our staff have made thousands of welfare calls and continued to provide essential services in people’s homes and our communities.”

PCH assessment took place in May and June this year and involved staff from across the business taking part in an on-line survey, as well as individual members of staff chosen at random by the assessor taking part in one-to-one interviews.

Paul Devoy, CEO of Investors in People, said: “We’d like to congratulate Plymouth Community Homes. Gold accreditation on We invest in people is a fantastic effort for any organisation, and places PCH in fine company with a host of organisations that understand the value of people.
