Residents loving their home's facelift

Good teamwork has seen the successful completion of a sheltered housing block’s refurbishment.

Our contractor Bell Group oversaw the renovation of the communal areas of Innes House, in Western Approach.

Tenants love the fresh look, which includes new carpets, repainted walls, new ceiling tiles and updated smoke alarms.

They were also full of praise for Bell Group and their sub-contractors.

They gathered for a coffee morning in their lounge to mark the end of the works alongside their housing with support officers, Phil Absalom and Debbie Kay-McPherson and Contract Works Supervisor Roy Harris.

Husband and wife residents Ralph and Gloria Kendell are regular users of the lounge. Ralph said: “The contractors were very good during the works.”

Gloria, a regular coffee morning attendee, added: “It’s really nice now.”

Tenant Roger Bickley added: “I like this carpet compared to the old blue one we had before. It’s made it a completely different place. The only thing they haven’t changed is the wallpaper but even that goes really well with the new paintwork.”

Residents were initially consulted about carpet choices and then paint colours.

Roy said: “There was great communication between the Housing with Support officers, residents, Programmed Maintenance Team, contractors and PCH’s Electrical Team that enabled an ‘everybody working together approach’.”

Phil added: “The contractors and sub-contractors were brilliant. The painters and decorators were superb and didn’t disrupt people.”

Darren Jeffery, Bell Group, Senior Surveyor, said: “We always strive to do what is best for our clients and their residents. This is a great example of how we deliver projects as a team and we are pleased that they haven’t been disturbed and have a fresh new lounge and communal areas to enjoy.”

Debbie said: “This room is used a lot compared to some of our other communal lounges. We do coffee mornings and Christmas events. It’s a good space. When Wimbledon was on, we encouraged people to come down and get together to watch it.”

The work took around six weeks to carry out and Bell Group is now finishing off a similar revamp of Leypark Court in Estover.
