See how you can get fit for less at Ford Community Gym

Ford/Activ8 Gym are working together with their sponsors to get people fit – come and find out how at their open morning on Tuesday 31 July.

Having just undergone a refurbishment and an overhaul of old equipment which has been updated, Ford Gym is fast becoming the place that people want to go to get fit or maybe just take an exercise class.

The gym has just invested in professional gym matting which reduces stress on joints for people taking part in classes for floor based exercises which are proving very popular with the community taking part in aerobics classes and boots camps.

PCH has been a sponsor of the gym for a number of years and we’ve just donated some new equipment as well. The gym receives funding from PCH, the Big Lottery Fund, Wolseley Trust and Plymouth City Council which means that people can get up to 16 weeks free gym membership worth up to £80.

To qualify you need to have a Plymouth post code and be either:

  • Unemployed
  • A single parent
  • Over 60 not in full time work
  • A PCH resident

Richard Williams who runs the gym said: “The people who use the gym love it here because it’s got such a friendly feel to the place. It’s not intimidating for people as everyone gets along really well and it’s a great way to get out and meet new people as well as looking after your health.

“Some of the equipment we’ve been replacing over the past few years which means it gives the gym a much fresher and cleaner feel for our customers. At the moment we’re also offering free youth sessions for anyone aged 11 to 17 any morning during the school holidays and Monday evenings from 4pm to 6pm. We’re looking forward to seeing people at our open day on Tuesday 31 July to see the facilities we offer and we want people to sign up!”
