Whitleigh housing team get into festive spirit
The housing team for Whitleigh were at the Whitleigh Green Christmas festival to offer people housing advice over the holiday period and also turned their hand to karaoke.
Whitleigh Green was a sea of festive colours on Saturday with people from different organisations and businesses working to put on a fun event for all the family. There were pony rides available, children were able to hold owls and the PCH team were offering the chance to learn about the tradition of the Jesse Tree and the different way Christmas is celebrated around the world.
For instance: children in Spain leave shoes out to be filled with presents; the Portuguese leave a spare empty chair out to remember those who have passed away throughout the year; and the Polish leave a piece of Iron under the table to make them strong. In Japan they eat KFC as their Christmas meal.
The Jesse Tree itself is a very old tradition which first started in medieval times and is used to tell the story of the Bible from creation to the Christmas story. The team asked all visitors to write a Christmas wish on one of the decorations representing a different tradition from around the world and hang it on the Jesse Tree. Many of the wishes hoped that family and friends would have a safe and happy Christmas.
Festive foods from across the globe were also available to taste and sample with many enjoying the different wonders. Children were also able to decorate baubles to hang on their tree courtesy of the PCH Manufacturing team who provided discs from unused off- cuts of foam board.
Following the arts, crafts and goodies that PCH were giving away, it was time for the housing team to take to the stage and belt out a rousing rendition of Last Christmas, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.
Housing Officer Nicola Blackwell said: "We wanted to put on a great event for the community and one that was inclusive of everyone's beliefs and values. It's fantastic at this time of year when people can come and spend time together and have fun all at the same time.
"We know our version of Last Christmas was the highlight of everyone's day!"
