Who would think that drinking coffee and eating cake could raise so much for charity?

Our kind-hearted residents have helped to raise thousands of pounds in the last couple of weeks by doing just that.

Our sheltered housing schemes have been holding coffee mornings in aid of cancer charity Macmillan as part of the organisation's annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Generous Innes House residents raised more than £3,000 alone.

Debbie Kay-McPherson said: “Many of the tenants at Innes raise money throughout the year, donating their change and holding raffles.”

Brake Farm residents added a savoury dimension to their event by including a bacon and egg pie. They raised £203.

At Brock House, the Barbican Legends served the teas and coffees and there was also a raffle. In total, they collected £189 while a similar event at the nearby Community Café in Notte Street raised £110.

Residents and staff organised an event at the Mount Wise Towers, which saw £275 raised for the charity.
