Working with students across the city
We’ve been working with students from the University of Plymouth to offer them the opportunity to work in social housing for their year’s placement.
A new member of staff, full of enthusiasm, working well with our teams and full of key skills and new ideas – sounds too good to be true but here in Plymouth we have a pool of talented youngsters who we can help and who can help us.
Mark Statton, quality and information manager has worked with several successful placements over the last year: “A university placement offers good value for money, and they are able to learn more about the type of career they would like to pursue while bringing with them a range of new skills and ideas that they can share with us.
“It’s a good two-way relationship as the placements we’ve had have found that their grades have improved in their third year. I sit on the Employer’s Advisory panel in Plymouth with other key organisations in the city and Babcock and the NHS are also offering students the opportunity to work with them.
“It’s good to develop current staff roles as well as they can mentor the person and make sure they fit into the team and feel comfortable here – you just never know what you’re going to learn!"
Katy Vincent, business analyst added: “it all comes down to people as set out in our business plan. It’s part of our commitment to being an employer of choice, and working with partners in the city to build effective relationships.”
