Residents are urged to be cautious when it comes to changing from Tax Credits to Universal Credit and speak to our Incomes Team before making a claim to ensure you are not worse off financially.
Many residents may have received a leaflet from tax credits advising them that tax credits are coming to an end and being replaced by Universal Credit.
Managed Migration
Changing over will not start until after 8 January 2024, and you will receive a letter called a Managed Migration Notice telling you when you need to make a claim.
You do not need to apply until you receive this notice, as under the Managed Migration, you will receive what’s known as ‘Transactional Protection’ to ensure you are not worse off during the change.
It is really important you do not apply for Universal Credit until you have received the Managing Migration Notice.
