We returned to Barne Barton for its annual community event, where local community partners and residents came together for a day of family activities, delicious free food, stalls and support from some amazing local organisations.
The event, organised by Mike Hookway, Community Builder for Barne Barton and St Budeaux, and supported by a number of local partners such as North Yard Community Trust, Plymouth Community Homes (PCH), LiveWest, local Councillors, The Pioneers Project, Barnardo’s, and Plymouth Community Builders, all with an aim of bringing the community closer together.
Mike Hookway, Community Builder, said:
Today has been a real success as always. The event is aimed at tackling food poverty and putting on something great for the community.
Thank you to all the partners and funders, and finally, the local residents, for making it so special.
Residents enjoyed themselves with an activity packed day, filled with many free family activities, ranging from a bouncy castle, a slip and slide, live music, and even a guest appearance from Adrian's colourful Plymouth Parrots.
We spoke to Nicola Street, Housing Officer at Plymouth Community Homes, just one of the many friendly staff members manning the PCH stand, providing support and advice.
"We are down here today at Barne Barton Community Event to offer support to any residents who need assistance, as well as some fun drawing activities for the children
Once again, the event has been amazing, plenty of familiar faces and a great opportunity to interact with new ones."
PCH’s stand has been a great avenue for residents to voice suggestions and concerns, for example helping identify illegal fly-tipping and potential ASB issues.
