The Plymouth Community Homes (PCH) Living Lab and University of Plymouth has launched 'Community Connections', a brand-new app designed to help older adults in South Devon stay connected to a whole host of online live activities, all from the comfort of their own home.
It’s designed to bring fun, friendships, and new experiences right to your living room—perfect if getting out and about isn’t as easy as it used to be.
In January, PCH residents helped to design this new app, where we listened carefully to what was important to them and now, the app is ready, and we’d love for our residents to try it and test out the technology in their homes!
If you would like to take part on a journey, to help make a real difference to our NHS and to other people across the city, we want to hear from you.
If you'd like to get involved, please complete the short survey where you'll be contacted with the information you need.
If you would like more information, please call Dr Kieran Green on 07399415952 or email kieran.green@pch.co.uk.
You can withdraw at anytime, and PCH will collect and store the results of the survey in accordance with GDPR and the Data Protection Act (2018) and information provided will only used for the purposes of recruitment to the agreed pilot.
In partnership with the Health and Housing Project, Plymouth Community Homes, University of Plymouth and Cisco.
New technologies are coming out daily to help people live healthier lives at home. However, this technology is unaffordable and not built to meet the wants and needs of the community. Your help is essential so we can change this.
What Can You Do on the App?
Over the coming months, you’ll be able to:
- Take part in arts and craft sessions
- Join tai chi and nature walk groups
- Get behind-the-scenes access to places like The Box and Smeaton’s Tower
- Help create a community cookbook
- Suggest new activities or run your own group—like bingo, history, or quizzes!
- And much more—all free and from the comfort of your own home.
If you're not confident with technology, the team are here to help you every step of the way.
If you don't have a device, they can lend you a special touchscreen device or tablet made just for people like you. It’s easy to use, and they'll help you get started with one-to-one support.
If you have access to your own tablet, make the team aware and they'll help you to get set up at a time that suits you.
The Digital Inclusion Worker at PCH will be able to help you in person, and will never be left to figure out anything alone. Kieran will be able to signpost you to the Digital Inclusion Worker.
The app will be carefully monitored by the research team involved in the project, to ensure that it remains as a safe, friendly and welcoming space.
