Millions of people – including children are in fuel poverty, with a growing mountain of debt putting pressure on those least able to afford it.
The energy crisis has been going on for over four years, meaning household budgets have been stretched and many people are struggling in cold homes.
In Plymouth, Sutton and Devonport 9,537 households are living in fuel poverty which is above the national average.
Fuel poverty affects millions of children across the UK. Children don’t have any control over where they live and yet, where they grow up could determine their health and future prospects for the rest of their lives. No child should have to grow up in a cold, unhealthy home but it is the reality for too many.
Fuel Poverty Awareness Day aims to keep fuel poverty on the agenda, inspire change and make those voices of fuel poor households heard.
There is help, advice and support available in our community, with Plymouth Energy Community (PEC) offering free support to anyone who is in, or at risk of fuel poverty.
1 in 4 households are seeking advice about how to lower unaffordable bills.
Last year, PEC supported 1,632 households through long-term, 1-1 support, and gave £815,000 in value of support to households.
