Janner Men’s Shed Welcomes Residents to Community Open Day

Janner Men's Shed Open Day 1

Plymouth Community homes (PCH) visited Leigham Community Hall this weekend as Janner Men’s Shed welcomed residents to its open day.

Janner Men’s Shed is a community group dedicated to promoting the wellbeing of both men and women by providing a safe, friendly and inclusive environment where people can come together to work on projects, share skills and socialise.

At the heart of the group is the idea of building both practical items and meaningful connections. Over the years, members have worked together on a variety of projects, including bird boxes, greenhouses, planters for local schools and more. PCH is proud to support the group through regular funding.

The open day showcased the very best of Janner Men’s Shed, inviting residents to enjoy craft stalls displaying members' work, a barbecue, a bouncy castle, a raffle and even a demonstration on how to use a lathe.

Andy, Janner Men’s Shed Chair, said:

"The open day was a fantastic opportunity to showcase what we do and the friendships that have been built through the group. As Chair of the Janner Men's Shed, it's incredibly rewarding to see first-hand the impact we have.

Many of our members tell us that the group has had a positive effect on their mental health and wellbeing. Building things is great, but the friendships, sense of community, and support we provide are what really make the difference."

Established in 2017 with funding support from PCH, the group is guided by Ryan Huws, Communities Worker in the PCH Communities and Partnerships team. Ryan regularly attends and promotes the shed and the opportunities it offers.

Andy, Janner Men’s Shed Chair added:

“Without PCH, we wouldn’t be running. They have played valuable part in building Janner Men’s Shed, not just through funding of the space, but also support and promotion of our activities. For this open day specifically, they also helped fund the bouncy castle and delivered leaflets to residents in the area. We are all extremely grateful for their continued support."

Janner Men’s Shed runs every Tuesday from 12pm to 4pm at a cost of £2.50, which includes a free meal.
