Staff from across Plymouth Community Homes (PCH) turned out in force on Saturday to take part in the PCH Charity Football Match to raise money for our Charities of the Year, St Luke's Hospice Plymouth and Children's Hospice South West (CHSW).
We are delighted to announce that the event raised a total of £3,020.23 for St Luke's and CHSW to help the charities to provide specialist care and support to people with progressive life-limiting illnesses across Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall.
PCH staff, volunteers from St Luke's Hospice, contractors and their friends and families took time out of their weekend to support the event at Harpers Football Centre and while most of the players were cheered on by those who came to support, other staff busied themselves selling raffle tickets to raise more cash.
The tournament was played in good spirits with staff from across the organisation, as well as PCH contractors and a team from St Luke's, pulling on their boots to show support. There were 12 teams, which included:
- DTFC (Darryl Tapper FC)
- Pinky Blinders
- Tamfam FC
- Large & in charge
- Fin Tech House Builders
- Netsix & Chill
- Electricians
- Sick Note
- Watsons Warriors
- Rexel 8
- Team St Luke's
- The Elites
The Elites won the wooden spoon trophy, 'Sick Note' came in third place and the runners-up trophy went to DTFC. The well-deserved tournament champions were Team St Luke's!
Congratulations to Team St Luke's for winning this year's event!
Rebecca Hocking, Communications Officer & Charity Steering Group lead at PCH, said: “I would like to thank everyone who contributed to our annual charity football tournament this year. As ever, the event was a huge success which wouldn’t have been possible without the generous contributions of our staff & steering group members, contractors as well as friends and family. We are overjoyed by the amount raised - a staggering £3k!
"We are excited to continue our fundraising for St Luke's and Children's Hospice South West throughout the year and to raise even more money for two very worthy charities."
Darryl Tapper, Water Hygiene Compliance Supervisor and Charity Steering Group Member, said: "I want to start by saying what an absolute great day Saturday was. I can honestly say that I think this one was the best year yet, with the sun shining and great turnout of 12 strong teams ready to play football.
"I can't thank everyone enough for taking the time out of their Saturday to be a part of it. There was a high standard of football on show with a well run tournament from Harpers. I loved every minute of it!
"What made it even better was seeing some faces of old come out for the event and everyone's families getting involved showing support is what it's all about, happy faces all round!
"As for the football, my team DTFC saw us face a very strong St Luke's team in the final, matching them at 1-1 went down to penalties where St Luke's came out on top and us as runners up. Massive well done to them, played some great football all day!
"I can't thank everyone enough for their help making this happen again from EMT, to the charity steering group members for all their help and involvement, to everyone that donated to the raffle, to the teams who took part, all together made for a successful event. Everyone involved should be massively proud of themselves!"
