PCH Green Transport Week 2025: 9 June – 16 June 2025

Plymouth Community Homes (PCH) is a member of the Plymouth Net Zero Partnership (PNZP) which exists to help make Plymouth’s mission to be a carbon neutral city by 2030 a reality.

To play our part, we are establishing a PCH Green Transport Week which will take place next week, 9 June 2025 – 16 June 2025.

Throughout the week we’ll be celebrating sustainable transport (safe modes of transportation that have a low impact on the environment), sharing stories about the different modes available to us, the local initiatives that can help us to become more sustainable, the impact using sustainable modes can have on our wellbeing and health and the impact that our residents and staff can make by choosing sustainable transport.

Sustainable transport includes walking, cycling, scooting, using public transport and electric vehicles, as well as carpooling and more.

We will also be supporting National Bike Week alongside members of PNZP which falls on 9-15 June, however we acknowledge that not everyone has access to a bike and may be unable to get involved with this, which is why we have created our own Green Transport Week with the intention of involving everyone.

As part of National Bike Week, we're partnering with Bikespace to run a Dr Bike Event in the Courtyard at The Beacon Community Hub in North Prospect on Wednesday 11 June from 10:30am - 5pm, where they'll be available all day to carry out free minor repairs and safety checks on bikes.

The event is funded by Plymotion, Plymouth City Council's Sustainable Transport team. Bikespace is a not-for-profit social enterprise who support young people outside of mainstream education by providing vocational training, and commercially they operate a busy bicycle repair workshop and provide logistical support to business.

On the day, the bike repairs and safety checks will take place on a first come first served basis. However, if you would like to book a timeslot at a time that is convenient for you in advance, please message us on Facebook, Instagram or X.

Throughout the week, we are encouraging residents and staff to use sustainable modes of transport for commuting and carrying out day to day activities.

We’d love to hear from our residents with the ways that you are already using sustainable transport and ways you plan to change your mode of transport during the week of 9 – 16 June to play a part in our Green Transport Week, which will be collated and shared at the end of the week.

The purpose of our very own Green Transport Week is to hopefully make a change as an organisation, and how we can come together to make a difference, but also to inform residents and staff about sustainable modes of transport and what is available in our city to continue using greener ways to get around in the future.

What is the PNZP?

The PNZP is made up of an Executive Board to provide leadership in driving Plymouth’s transition to net zero, and theme-based advisory and action groups, each bringing different areas of expertise to the city’s climate response.

Calum Gordon, Sustainability Lead in our Procurement team is a member of the Net Zero Action Group as well as the Engagement / Behaviour Change Working Group alongside Rebecca Hocking, Communications Officer in our Communications, Marketing & External Engagement Team.

One of the aims of the Engagement / Behaviour Change Working Group is to draw on each organisation’s significant potential including assets and communications channels to support net zero related community outreach and to realise the collaborative advantages of working together to engage employees around the net zero mission.
