Throughout our Green Transport Week we have already shared the stories of great initiatives including Bikespace CIC's workshops, One You Plymouth's Walking Groups and more, who are all contributing towards sustainable travel in the city and beyond.

Another fantastic initiative and campaign in Plymouth is 'Ditch My Ride', which is all about one simple action and the impact that it can have on your lifestyle.

Would you like to save money, boost your health and help to improve the air quality in your area in just ONE day? You can achieve all of these things in one simple action through the Ditch My Ride campaign by leaving at your car at home for one day a week.

It is easy to get involved. Visit the Ditch My Ride website and make your pledge. Select the day of the week that you would like to ditch your ride and a car sticker will be sent to you by post. Then display your sticker, practice your promise and ditch your ride for the next four weeks.

Please let us know if you plan to make your pledge. We'd love to follow your journey and find out why you've decided to take on the challenge.

According to Ditch My Ride, here’s 5 reasons why you should pledge!

  • By not using your car for one day each week for a month you’re saving £20 worth of fuel, the equivalent of 6 cups of coffee - go on, treat yourself!
  • Just 10 minutes outside can improve your mood for the next 7 hours
  • By ditching your car once a week for a year you can remove the same amount of carbon as 15 mature trees!
  • The average adult needs 150 minutes of activity a week. Instead of getting into your car, walk or cycle to your destination and see how easy it is to achieve that goal.
  • Healthy habits for life are extremely important and we should adopt them from an early age. Encourage your children, neighbours and friends to take on the pledge with you and develop active routines as a community.
