Plymouth Community Homes (PCH) has chosen Andy's Man Club as its Charity of the Year for 2026/2027. Fundraising will take place over the next 12-months to support the men’s suicide-prevention charity, which helps end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health.

Andy's Man Club offer free to attend peer-to-peer support groups across the UK and online, giving men a confidential space to talk openly about their mental health without judgement.

Following nominations from staff and a company-wide vote, Andy's Man Club was selected as the PCH Charity of the Year.  To kick off the partnership, Steve Doyle, Andy's Man Club Area Lead for the South West, visited Plumer House to meet Jonathan Cowie, Chief Executive at PCH, who presented an initial £500 donation.

The charity takes its name from Andy Roberts, who sadly took his own life aged 23 in early 2016. Andy’s family wasn’t aware that he was suffering or struggling to the extent that he would take his own life, and as a result looked deeper into male suicide and men’s mental health. During this research they discovered that male suicide is the biggest killer of men under 54, with male mental health surrounded by well-ingrained cultural stigma in the UK.

Andy’s Mum and Brother-in-Law together came up with the idea of Andy's Man Club, a group where men aged 18 and above can speak openly about their mental health in a non-clinical environment. Groups now operate nationwide and are completely volunteer led, with all group facilitators having first interacted with the charity when they came through the door as a service user.

Jonathan Cowie, Chief Executive at PCH, said: “It is a pleasure to support Andy's Man Club this year. Their work is vital in breaking down the stigma of men’s mental health through the support they offer.

“I know our staff will support the cause with passion and enthusiasm to raise well deserved funds in the year ahead.”

Steve Doyle, Andy's Man Club Area Lead for the South West of England, said: "It's an honour for Andy's Man Club to be chosen as Charity of the Year for Plymouth Community Homes.

“PCH do so much for their residents but also Plymouth in general by supporting and sponsoring various charities and fundraising activities. We're very grateful to be included in that list over 2026/27.

“We can't wait to work closely with Plymouth Community Homes, their staff and residents over the next year, and beyond."

The charity has 320+ locations nationwide, and you can find your nearest support group here. If there are no groups nearby to you, or you feel more suited to their online meetings, then these are available via Google Meet – you can attend online by emailing info@andysmanclub.co.uk.

To mark this years’ Time to Talk Day, Steve joined us to host a presentation for staff of PCH, followed by a Q&A and open discussion about mental health, with a focus on men’s wellbeing. Find out more.

Throughout the year, PCH will be raising money for Andy's Man Club through a variety of events, sharing updates about the fundraising efforts of staff on our website and on FacebookInstagramX and LinkedIn.

During 2025 and 2026, PCH raised over £11,000 for St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth and Children’s Hospice South West, helping the charities to provide specialist care and support to people with progressive life-limiting illnesses across Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall.

In previous years, PCH has supported several charities including Luna’s Fund, Motor Neurone Disease Association, Gables Dogs and Cats Home, Woodside Animal Sanctuary, Devon and Cornwall Food Action, Age UK, Jerimiah’s Journey and many more.
