Plymouth Community Homes (PCH) recently supported the Anti-Social Behaviour Community Listening Event, where speakers from Plymouth City Council, Victim Support, Devon and Cornwall Police, and Plymouth Community Homes delivered information and advice about responding to ASB incidents.
The event, hosted at the HQ Building on Union Street, was in connection with ASB Awareness Week (30June - 06 July) and was organised by Lavinia Porfir, Community Engagement Officer at Plymouth Racial Equality Council.
The event aimed to inform residents whose first language isn't English about local statutory and non-statutory agencies that can help with, and to explore any difficulties they have encountered in reporting ASB.
Throughout the event, presentations were given by PCC’s Community Connections, Devon & Cornwall Police, Plymouth Community Homes, and Victim Support. These presentations covered a variety of useful topics, including what ASB is, how to report it, and support available for individuals whose first language may not be English.
We spoke to Andrew Brettle, Area Housing Manager at Plymouth Community Homes, whose presentation on the day outlined PCH's support and commitment to tackling ASB across all of our stock.
"The event was a great opportunity for residents and professionals alike to find out more about what is and what isn’t ASB.
Our presentation, along with those from the Police, PCC, and Victim Support, confirmed we are all committed to tackling ASB, and gave a good insight as to which organisation victims can turn to for support in different situations.
The feedback from the event was 100% positive, and we look forward to continuing to work with REC, and particularly with those people whose first language may not be English. "
Attendees were given the chance to work through several workshops, for example, focussing on the challenges and barriers people face when it comes to reporting ASB. These workshops sparked some excellent conversation and feedback, contributing to building a more inclusive and safer Plymouth.
