Residents and their families had a fantastic day in the sunshine at Pembroke Street Community Fun Day, hosted by the Pembroke Street Estate Management Board.
Food, facepainting, charities, community groups and even the circus were on hand to make the day a great success – with dozens of children munching on candyfloss and making the most of the resident DJ.
Mr Bounce was on hand with his bouncy castle as one of the highlights, whilst Lydia’s Facepainting had a queue of youngsters waiting for a range of glitter tattoos or butterfly face paints.
Vixen Dance Circus were offering lessons in acrobatics, and Friary Mill were making sure everyone was well fed with a selection of baked goods. Bikespace were offering free bike repairs and safety checks and Nudge Community Builders had set up stall to talk to the local community about their recent projects.
BuildX SW Ltd is a PCH contractor about to embark on a huge £6m refurbishment of the Pembroke Street Estate, and their Resident Liaison Officer was available to talk to residents about the upcoming refurbishment and answer any questions about the project.
Local residents Brenda and Leslie also hosted a popular tombola to raise money for Cancer Research.
Pembroke Estate Management Board are a Tenant Management Organisation formed by local residents, the only TMO in the South West. They deliver some of the services to manage and maintain the homes on the estate in partnership with Plymouth Community Homes.
Will Watts, Pembroke Street Estate Manager said: “The event was a great opportunity to invite families from across Mount Wise to take part in free activities and to connect with local services. It’s part of our commitment to support residents and maintain a strong and cohesive community.”
Local residents Ana and Ellis thoroughly enjoyed their day, with their kids having great fun. Ellis said: “What a fun day, my son really enjoys it each year and it’s a nice day for everyone, from the residents to the children, all able to have a lot of fun which is all put on for free.”
Ana continues: “We’ve had a brilliant afternoon, the children really enjoyed themselves and it’s fantastic to see events like this still happening in the community for the younger generation.”
