Plymouth Community Homes (PCH) will be delivering more affordable homes in Plymouth after securing 15 energy-efficient homes at Palmerston Heights in Derriford.

The 15 new homes, consisting of one-, two-, three- and four- bedrooms are being purchased within the fourth phase of the Palmerston Heights development in Derriford, a well-established residential area in the north of the city.

Of the 15 homes, 10 will be offered for affordable rent and five homes will be made available for shared ownership purchase through our sales brand SO Living.

The homes will be prioritised to those with a local connection to the area to meet the specific needs of the community, which has been made possible thanks to the support from key partner, Plymouth City Council.

The Palmerston Heights development being built by Persimmon Homes is located on the south-facing side of the Forder Valley and is close to Derriford Hospital, with direct access to the A38 Devon Expressway. The development is well-placed to benefit from Plymouth City Council’s vision of a ‘New Derriford’ and the homes within the fourth phase will be equipped with air source heat pumps and cycle storage to encourage active travel.

PCH previously worked with Persimmon Homes on the Trevethan Meadows development in Liskeard, delivering 45 affordable homes across phase three and four, including 37 homes for rent and eight for shared ownership.

Nick Jackson, Executive Director of Business Services and Development at Plymouth Community Homes, said: “We are committed to working with our partners at Plymouth City Council to deliver more, much-needed affordable housing for local people, and achieving our mission of ensuring a high quality affordable home for everyone. These 15 homes will be an excellent addition to the city’s available affordable housing stock, and we’re especially pleased to be acquiring some larger three and four-bed family homes to meet local need and help more Plymouth families to find a permanent home.”

Jo Agnew, Project Manager at Plymouth Community Homes, said: "We are pleased to partner with Persimmon Homes on their latest phase of properties at Palmerston Heights. The homes will be a welcome addition to our existing homes in Plymouth.”

Andy Hill, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes Cornwall and West Devon, said: “Persimmon is determined to leave a positive community legacy where we build, and an integral element of our offering is the transfer of quality new homes to local housing association partners.

“We are delighted to have transferred the latest tranche of these houses, and we hope this significant community contribution will help alleviate pressure on the local housing list.

“We are pleased to partner with Plymouth Community Homes to deliver this increase in provision for the people of Plymouth as we continue to make progress on this popular site delivering quality homes for local people.”

Councillor Chris Penberthy, Cabinet Member for Housing, Communities and Cooperative Development at Plymouth City Council, said: “The purchasing of these homes by Plymouth Community Homes will make such a difference to so many families across our city.

“I welcome any and all additions to Plymouth’s affordable housing stock and wish the new residents best wishes in their new homes.”

The homes which are to be offered for rent or shared ownership sale through PCH will be available from Spring 2025.

All available homes to rent in Devon are advertised on Devon Home Choice, a partnership of local social landlords. To bid for a property or to be considered for a tenancy, registration will need to be completed using their online application form.
