At Plymouth Community Homes, we offer those in education the opportunity to gain experience in a supportive and professional environment. As an Investors in People Gold employer, we are committed to developing people and helping them reach their potential. 

Our work experience placements allow you to see how a housing association operates, develop new skills and learn more about potential careers. Whether you are interested in office work like Admin or Customer Services; working in the community alongside Housing Officers or Community Support teams; being hands-on in a Trade such as an Electrician or a Carpenter, or if you don’t know what to do, we’ve got loads of career paths you can try out - whether you know what you want to do or you're still figuring it out, we’ll help you explore and find what fits.

Get stuck in with a wide variety of office tasks, from managing diaries, answering the phone, having Teams meetings, taking minutes, entering data into online systems and producing documents such as letters and reports. It all helps to keep things running smoothly - it’s a great way to see how the behind-the-scenes magic happens! We have a variety of office-based teams at PCH, including Procurement, Governance, Quality Assurance, Legal, Communities, Health & Safety and Facilities

About Repairs & Asset Management

If you’re thinking about a career in Construction, then this is the perfect opportunity for you to work alongside qualified and experienced Tradespeople! At PCH, this includes roles such as Carpentry (i.e. Woodwork), Plastering, Painting & Decorating and Masonry (general building). We even have our own Plumbing, Legionella, Gas Engineering and Electrical teams! We can offer the chance to work alongside our Asset Management team too, whose responsibility is to ensure that our Assets (i.e. our properties) are well-maintained. This could mean organising large roofing projects, window replacement schemes and cladding work, as well as helping to future-proof our housing stock (e.g. through the installation of Photovoltaic Panels). You will be required to provide and wear steel toe capped boots/shoes for this placement

About Thriving Neighbourhoods

Spend a few days with our Housing team, where you’ll get to meet our residents. You’ll act as the main point of contact for residents, see how applications for housing and allocations are processed, and assist in providing advice on issues like tenancy agreements and benefits. This could involve walking around our estates to ensure properties are in good condition, to seeing how rent collections are carried out.

To apply for a work experience placement at PCH, you need to first be in some form of education, for example, school, college, or university. If you are interested in a work experience placement, please fill out the form below, where you will need to provide some information and answer questions such as:

  • Which teams and departments would you like to be considered for?
  • What are the dates that you are hoping to have your placement? And how long will the placement be for?
  • What would you like to get from your placement, and how might this influence your long-term career aspirations?
