Saturday 10 October is World Mental Health Day, a reminder to check in with ourselves and the people around us.
This year's theme,"Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change," highlights the importance of listening to people's experiences and creating space for open, honest conversations about mental health.
Taking the time to listen and support one another can make a real difference. By reducing stigma and encouraging conversations, we can help create communities where everyone feels heard, valued and supported.
Starting a conversation can sometimes feel difficult or overwhelming. However, talking openly and listening without judgement can make a real difference.
The Mental Health Foundation has provided helpful tips to support conversations around mental health and help you take that first step. You can explore their tip sheets here and here.
If you're struggling with your mental health, or that of a loved one or friend please remember that you don't have to face it alone. There are people and organisations ready to listen and help.
- Head Space – Colebrook Out of Hours Services
- Four Greens Community Trust Mental Health Drop-in
- Samaritans
- Mind UK
- Andys Man Club (PCH Charity of the Year)
We'd also like to remind residents that our partners at Livewell Southwest offer the First Response Service, a 24/7 mental health crisis line providing advice, support and signposting for people experiencing mental health difficulties.
If you need mental health support, you can call NHS 111 and select the mental health option. You can find out more about the service, here.
This World Mental Health Day, let's take a moment to check in with ourselves and those around us, and remember that support is always available when it's needed.
