Plymouth Community Homes announces final amount of over £11,000 raised for its two charities of the year over the past 12 months.
In April 2025, Plymouth Community Homes (PCH) teamed up with St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth and Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) to raise money to help the charities provide specialist care and support to people with progressive life-limiting illnesses across Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall.
Over the last 12 months, colleagues from across the organisation have come together to raise an incredible £11,279.36 through several PCH led fundraising events, as well as through the phenomenal effort of staff in both our volunteer charity steering group and beyond, taking on personal challenges to raise even more money.
Both St Luke’s and CHSW were chosen by PCH staff, being the most highly nominated charities during the nomination process last year, leading to them both being selected as our charities of the year.
The charity fundraising kicked off in April 2025 with an initial £500 corporate donation presented by Jonathan Cowie, CEO at PCH, and the fundraising efforts have since been led by the team of volunteer staff members who regularly attended charity steering group meetings to make plans for the different fundraising events.
Throughout the year, PCH organised a whole host of fundraising events which included a charity football match, a quiz night, themed lunchtime quizzes and a Bring Your Dog to Work Day. PCH also held regular raffles to win a VIP parking space for a month, and colleagues took on challenges to raise even more money, including a Skydive, a bake sale, participating in a Midnight Walk, hosting a music event at a local nightclub, a dog walking challenge and so much more.
All funds raised from PCH led events were split evenly between both charities, with the majority of individual staff fundraisers raising money for either St Luke’s or CSHW, which helped us to raise £7,804.53 for St Luke’s and £3,474.83 for CHSW, which contributed to the overall total of £11,279.36.
Earlier this month, both charities were given a final £500 corporate donation from the Executive Management team at PCH and met with Rebecca Hocking, Communications Officer and Charity Steering Group Lead at PCH as she presented them with a cheque sharing the total amount raised from the fundraising efforts over the last year.
Throughout the year, PCH has worked closely with Wayne Marshall, New Partnerships Lead at St Luke's Hospice Plymouth and Annabel Roberts, Area Fundraiser at Children's Hospice South West and a number of their volunteers to maximise every fundraising opportunity.
Wayne Marshall, New Partnerships Lead at St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth, said: “Our partnership with Plymouth Community Homes throughout 2025 means the world to us. Together, we’ve not just been working side by side, their fundraising has been creating real, lasting support that strengthens our hospice and the families who rely on it. We’re deeply grateful for the enthusiasm, kindness and incredible staff engagement shown by everyone at PCH. This collaboration truly reflects the power of community, and what can be done when people come together”.
Annabel Roberts, Area Fundraiser at Children’s Hospice South West, added: "We are incredibly grateful for the wonderful support shown by everyone at Plymouth Community Homes over the past year. They have raised essential funds for Children’s Hospice South West, as well as awareness for the charity in Plymouth, ensuring we can continue providing vital care for babies, children, young people and their families. It has been a pleasure working alongside everyone at PCH, and we are truly thankful for every fundraiser, every event, and every member of staff who has contributed.”
Rebecca Hocking, Communications Officer and Charity Steering Group Lead at Plymouth Community Homes, said: “It has been wonderful to work alongside two amazing local charities over the last 12 months, raising vital funds for people with progressive life-limiting illnesses in our city and the surrounding areas.
“Our incredible volunteer charity steering group members have been instrumental in raising so much money, and have all been highly committed to ensure we raise awareness for charities which mean so much to so many people, as well as to make sure we bypass our previous fundraising totals. I would like to say a personal thank you to them all for giving up their time to be a part of it, as well as to staff who were not part of the steering group but still contributed so greatly to our charity fundraising.
“I would like to extend our thanks to our staff for taking part in the fundraising events and for their generous donations and to local organisations who have generously donated raffle prizes throughout the year, allowing our staff, and their friends and families to bag themselves excellent prizes.
“Each year we hope to raise as much money for charities nominated by our staff, and as this charity of the year term comes to a close, we are equally as excited to raise even more funds for a new charity, which will be announced on 1 April 2026.”
